About BHI

BHI stands for Bald Head Island, an island off the coast of North Carolina. I am always waiting for our vacation time so we can make the 10 hour drive, hop on the ferry, and spend a week or more on the sunny beaches.

However, this summer is different. I'll be taking the ferry many times to BHI to volunteer as a sea turtle nest monitor! BHI has Green and Loggerhead sea turtles that come regularly to make their nests. Now I will be able to take care of the nests, spend many nights waiting for them to hatch, and lead them into the waters and keep them safe from crabs and birds.

In the area where our house is, there are about five dead-end roads that I know by heart, and there is only one other road that leads out to the rest of the island. This year I am determined to memorize more of the island so I can spend hours on my bike exploring them.

There is a lot of wildlife on BHI... deer, raccoons, foxes, alligators (randomly appearing on the golf course and in the turtle pond), and yes, sharks like the Spinner shark and Great White.

So there you have the basics of my adventures and BHI. Maybe one day you can journey there yourself and love it as much as I do!
